Introductory Seminar in Iconography complements the lecture course Introduction to Iconography. The student is introduced to the method of the iconographical analysis of a work of art:
- pre-iconographical description,
- iconographical analysis, and
- iconological interpretation.
The students gets to know mythological, literary, historical and other profane motifs, as well as the most frequent sacred motifs in European art. The student gets acquainted with their historical development and with the social, cultural, religious and intellectual circumstances that influence that development.
The student is also introduced to an independent iconographical analysis of a chosen work of art and to its presentation in written and oral form. The selection of motifs from which the student can choose changes in every study year.
