The student learns about:
• music as the universal phenomenon in various socio-cultural contexts;
• anthropological approach to music practices of the world and to the factors that determine them (geographic, historical, demographic, religious, language related etc.);
• the application of theoretical fundamentals on eleven music regions of the world;
• concepts of external and internal borders among the regions and their shared features;
• the influences of European musics on other parts of the world and non-European influences on European musics;
• the conceptualisation of folk, art and popular musical practices and processes such as acculturation, transculturation etc.;
• diverse musical practices in various contexts – from village parties to symphonic concerts to Eurosong;
• different research approaches with regard to the music genres and regional characteristics;
• written and other sources (books, periodicals, discography, audio-visual reference books).
